Data analyst jobs with UK visa sponsorship

What data analyst roles pay against the Skilled Worker going rate, and who can sponsor.

Checked against gov.uk on

The short answer

The Home Office lists the job title Data analysts under SOC 3544, a medium-skilled code on the Temporary Shortage List, which only counts where the certificate of sponsorship is issued before 31 December 2026. Jobs whose duties fit SOC 2433 (actuaries, economists and statisticians) or SOC 2133 (IT business analysts, architects and systems designers) are graduate-level codes. For an experienced hire, those codes need at least £55,100 under SOC 2433 and £54,900 under SOC 2133. New-entrant rates start from £38,600 (SOC 2433) and £38,400 (SOC 2133). Figures from the Home Office going-rate tables, updated 11 November 2025.

Data analysts turn raw numbers into answers: cleaning data, building reports and dashboards, and explaining what changed and why.

WhoHow it is worked outAt least
Experienced hire The higher of £41,700 (general salary threshold) and £55,100 (going rate) £55,100
New entrant The higher of £33,400 (new-entrant minimum) and £38,600 (70% of the going rate) £38,600

Who counts as a new entrant is set out on gov.uk: for example, people under 26, or people on (or recently on) a Student visa at degree level or a Graduate visa. The total stay on new-entrant rates cannot be more than 4 years, including time on a Graduate visa. Read when you can be paid less on gov.uk.

Codes with restrictions

SOC 3544 Data analysts Temporary Shortage List

Some data analyst jobs are coded under SOC 3544 (data analysts), a medium-skilled code. This code is in Table 1a of Appendix Skilled Occupations and on the Temporary Shortage List. The Immigration Rules only count it as on the list where the application uses a certificate of sponsorship issued before 31 December 2026. Outside the list, Table 1a codes are only open to people who were granted permission as a Skilled Worker under the rules in place before 22 July 2025 and have held Skilled Worker permission ever since.

For a new application while the code is on the Temporary Shortage List, the standard salary rules apply: at least £41,700 for an experienced hire (the higher of £41,700 and the £34,900 going rate), or £33,400 for a new entrant. People first granted Skilled Worker permission before 4 April 2024, and continuously since, can have lower, transitional salary rules for applications made before 4 April 2030 (Appendix Skilled Worker SW 4.2, with the going rates in Table 2aa).

What the rules say for data analyst jobs

SOC 2433 (actuaries, economists and statisticians) and SOC 2133 (IT business analysts, architects and systems designers) are on the Home Office table of graduate-level occupations (RQF level 6 and above), which is open to new Skilled Worker applications.

For actuaries, economists and statisticians (SOC 2433), the going rate of £55,100 is above the £41,700 general threshold, so the going rate is the bar for an experienced hire: at least £55,100 a year. A new entrant can be paid from £38,600.

The Home Office lists these job titles under 2433: Actuaries and actuarial analysts; Statistical data scientists; Economists; Mathematicians; Statisticians; and Actuaries, economists and statisticians (other).

For IT business analysts, architects and systems designers (SOC 2133), the going rate of £54,900 is above the £41,700 general threshold, so the going rate is the bar for an experienced hire: at least £54,900 a year. A new entrant can be paid from £38,400.

The Home Office lists these job titles under 2133: Computer analysts and scientists, Data architects, Data engineers, IT business analysts, IT systems architects and IT solutions architects and designers.

What sponsors look for in data analyst hires

Data analyst is one of the most common target roles for international graduates, and it is also one of the trickiest to code. The occupation an employer chooses depends on the real duties: statistical work sits with statisticians and data scientists, while analysis built around systems and data models sits with IT business analysts and data architects.

The two main codes shown here, 2433 and 2133, are on the graduate-level table. Ask the employer which code they intend to use before you get far into the process, and compare the offer with the rate for that code, not the job title.

Some data analyst jobs are coded under 3544, data analysts, which sits below graduate level. That code is on the Temporary Shortage List for now, with a cut-off date for certificates of sponsorship, so the code on your offer matters as much as the salary. The codes with restrictions section on this page sets out what the published rules say.

Graduate data analysts usually start with reporting: cleaning data in SQL or Excel, building dashboards, and explaining what changed. Interviews often include a short data task, so practise talking through how you would check a number before you trust it.

Rules change: always check gov.uk for the current thresholds, and when you can be paid less.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum salary for a data analyst on a Skilled Worker visa?

It depends on the occupation code. For an experienced hire, usually at least £55,100 under SOC 2433 and £54,900 under SOC 2133. SOC 3544 has a going rate of £34,900, but only some applicants can use it: see the codes with restrictions above. The figures come from the Home Office tables updated 11 November 2025; check gov.uk before you rely on them.

Which occupation code is a data analyst job?

The employer chooses the code from the duties of the job, not the title. Visavi maps data analyst roles to SOC 2433 (actuaries, economists and statisticians) and SOC 2133 (IT business analysts, architects and systems designers). Job titles the Home Office lists under 3544 include Data analysts. Some jobs are coded under SOC 3544 (data analysts), which only some applicants can use: see the codes with restrictions above.

Can a graduate data analyst be paid the new-entrant rate?

Yes, if they count as a new entrant under the published rules: for example, people under 26, or people on (or recently on) a Student visa at degree level or a Graduate visa. For SOC 2433 the new-entrant rate is £38,600. It can be used for up to 4 years in total, including time on a Graduate visa. Check when you can be paid less on gov.uk.

How many Skilled Worker visas were granted for the occupation codes data analyst jobs use?

In the year to June 2026, the Home Office granted these numbers of Skilled Worker entry clearance visas to main applicants applying from outside the UK: SOC 2433 (actuaries, economists and statisticians), 337; SOC 2133 (IT business analysts, architects and systems designers), 1,128; and SOC 3544 (data analysts, a code with restrictions), 137.
